Where is the paint code on a GM?
Service Parts Identification (SPID) label. A code starting with WA followed by digits (for example WA8555), or a three-character code such as GAZ; the line often starts with BC/CC and U.
- Glovebox / centre console
- Boot (trunk) floor / spare-wheel well
- Driver's door jamb (B-pillar)
Step by step
- Open the glovebox and look for the SPID sticker on the inside of the lid or the box.
- If it is not there, check the boot (trunk) floor or spare-wheel cover, the centre console, or the driver's door jamb on newer models.
- On the SPID label, find the line beginning
BC/CCor containingUfollowed by the code.
Applies to Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Cadillac, Pontiac, Oldsmobile and Saturn. A dealer can confirm the colour from the VIN.
No label?
Labels fade or go missing after repairs. A GM dealer can read the original colour from the VIN, and the service booklet often lists it. If the car has been resprayed, have a painted part (the fuel filler flap is ideal) scanned at a paint shop.
